HE Parker Multi-sports Complex project

Type:  Sports and Leisure
Budget:  R170M
Location:  Heathmont, Victoria, Australia
*undertaken as Project Architect for CO-OP Studio – Australia

The HE Parker multi-sports complex is a new, purpose-built high ball sports facility for netball, volleyball, badminton and table tennis, with the purpose of fostering wider participation in female sports of this nature. The facility includes four indoor multi-purpose courts with the capability of converting two courts into a show court with seating to accommodate at least 500 spectators, four outdoor multi-purpose courts, unisex change rooms and umpire facilities, and other associated support facilities to host sub-regional competitions. It also has office space for sporting associations, multi-purpose community rooms and dedicated gym and fitness spaces with direct access to change rooms and café areas.

The design of the building makes use of robust materials, as the building is in a relatively isolated location, prone to possible vandalism. Furthermore, an insulated precast panel, in conjunction with Rockwool sandwich panels, was used in the building envelope to effectively reduce the heat load within the building. This design alone resulted in an average temperature reduction of 4°C when compared to a similar facility with active cooling not in use.
